about "its Motors in service"

The hybrid work "its Motors in service" uses as source text the transcription of two speeches delivered by an entity who projects himself as heir to the leadership of his parents, by employing empty words without action, as consequence of roughly imbibing the teachings of his parents. Machines humans dream of and visions machines imagine intervene the encoded articulation of the said entity. The words, upon the interruption of images, are then silenced, violated, sliced, devoured and regurgitated into a work against words spoken by an entity that does not work, and thus deserves to be phased out.

"splitting the atom" ++

from the college of fine arts, the CONDEMNED exhibit is now at hardin ng mga diwata of the college of arts and letters. if things go well, a print edition of our komix "Die Philosophen" (a slightly different version from the one that appeared in highchair 18: poetry comics issue) shall be available at BLTX VI (makiki-squat ata ako sa may bandang Cabinet). following* "Nang Mag-agaw-dilim ang mga Kabataang Mangangaso sa Majayjay" of Factsheet 6, is my contribution to Fact Sheet 7 / Down the Drain: The Wasted State of Human Rights under the Aquino Regime, "Splitting the Atom," which is about the illegal detention case of physicist, environmentalist, activist, professor Kim Gargar:

let us brace ourselves for Hagupit and bear with the crap that is the Aquino regime, so we have enough strength for vigilance and for mass action. taas kamaong solidarity sa panawagan para sa climate justice at para sa karapatang pantao!

september strikes (back [and forth])

*start of message* tried to stay silent all throughout september and sum all things that this accursed month of stressful hell broke loose come october. failed, obviously. terribly failed. i am sober and i prophesy strikes that hopefully would not end as only good starts of sparks that exist for a nanosecond then later cease to be. speaking of such, two strikes of matches after the cut

1) a draft abstract for the boni 150 conference of [contend] this coming thursday. paper tentatively titled "Bonifacio and General China: Power, Liberation and ‘Terrorism’ in Orchid"; and 2) "The Fight for Education: Global Upheavals as Rehearsals," the uncut version of "The Fight for Education as Dress Rehearsal" which was published way back 2011 in UP Forum. the latter a lengthy celebration, the former a brief sigh of critique. i share these things in anticipation of the aforesaid vision of strikes. *end of message*

scale souvenir: a parting gift

watched tarantino's django unchained, and this parting isn't like that of dr. king schultz's farewell to calvin candie that went "normally i would say 'auf wiedersehen,' but since what 'auf wiedersehen' actually means is ''till I see you again,' and since I never wish to see you again, to you, sir, I say goodbye." signing off w his fifth (but probably not the final) croc annote [JEWELER], dennis discussed how simoun failed and how paths might once again cross as another cayman lurks in Noli.

and like a proud mother i sign off with the postscript of the conceived child, as prophesied in JEWELER. i will show you a glimpse of a fraction of its limb so pardon this shameless plug that immediately follows yesterday's [shameless plug], and let me tell you that [pseudocuments volume two: files & facts & figures] is in the works, the semifinal stages of editing, and shall probably be available come june. among its contents is "from the common origin of chainsaws and crocodiles, and other life-and-death matters" with the first section "how to escape the buzzgator death roll: a gift." i leave you w a b.s. of a p.s., a sneek peak of that gift, and i hope you stay safe and away from whatever devil crocs you would rather not face because they are y/our sins.

the mother of crocodiles

re-read, re-view: [OPEN SEASON] recaps the first four chapters of El Fili, showing us the waters where crocs move about; [crocs across, beyond pages] follows, pulling us perhaps to and fro our arkham asylums; [GROUNDS FOR SPORT] opens the table for competition among stories, story tellers and the involved hocus-pcos (this entry was posted while the ritual, wherein people cast their blessings to democracy, takes place; reptilian fvckers olympics, w the usual 'every vote counts' as punchline; their game, their rules; we are but mere spectators so the democratic practice maintains whatever legitimacy it claims to have, w the assumed mandate blessed by the populace; indeed, "The larger the crocodile, the greater the glory of St. Nicholas."); [WORD MAGICKS] probes into the probable sources of power of fr. salvi: story and stone, hence the inquiry: "What are the implications of turning the devil itself into stone?" story and stone. let me hit my head w the latter.

obliterate something of value, and you make a name for, even a legend of, yourself, the hero. titles, like "dragonslayer," for instance. now, once you own something of value, that is another, well, story. more of an honorific than a title, "mother of dragons,"  imho, has a better ring to it than "dragonslayer." to obliterate or to own a crocodile is the question. fr. salvi opted for both, as expounded in WORD MAGICKS; but let me focus on owning:

crocs across, beyond pages

[note: i think this entry is more about the process of coming up w the image herein rather than engaging the narrative, so please bear w me if i refer to previous works and processes and stuff that i have been trying to sort in order to write this entry in as comprehensible a manner as possible. if you're fine w that, let the chaos of rizal's el fili x morrison's batman x crocodiles x upcoming elections x etc begin. if you're not interested, postpone reading this and begin w omaca-an wanderings.]

two days prior the elections; thus this second installment to this series. the first being [OPEN SEASON: The Crocodiles of El Fili] up at the tekstong bopis blog, where a backgrounder of this attempt to dive deeper into the rivers, actually and figuratively maybe, of rizal's El Filibusterismo is provided by dennis. he discussed how simoun the jeweler "traverses the strata" of the upper (chapter 1) and the lower (chapter 2) deck of steamship tabo. indeed, "excesses from above result in suffering below, acquiescence or struggle from below stabilizes or destabilizes the powers above."

animal farm elections 2013

my orwell reference is careless as bloody hell, but let me make one thing clear: only two types of animals vie for positions this coming elections--cuddly ones, and, well, old dogs (dog-pigs, dog-crocs, wtf) that can never be taught new tricks. conrado de quiros's insights re: the old and the young [here].

Beyond the Bark: Reexamining our Roots

(since the university of the philippines system website seems to be under some sorta state of recovery [tho the issuu account is well and healthy, i guess], i am sharing my article [may kaunting edit lang sa notes] as published in the july-august issue of u.p. forum. in commemoration of macliing dulag, here it is.)

There is a thin line—a letter—between “indigene” and “indigence.” Though their meanings and their Latin roots differ—the former from indigena1 and the latter from indigentia2—both describe indigenous peoples (IPs). In an interview, Dr. Nestor Castro, UP Department of Anthropology chair, quoted Conrad Kottak3 and said that IPs refer to “the original inhabitants or particular territories; often the descendants of tribespeople who live on as culturally distinct colonized peoples, many of whom aspire political autonomy.”

Their right to self-determination, however,  will not be served on a silver platter, more so, a golden one. Despite being guardians of domains blessed with gold, the indigene’s wealth is being looted, making them indigent. No matter how the “civilized” and the “outsiders” romanticize IPs as “rich in culture,” IPs live impoverished lives because of eco-political “developments” that are rather destructive to than cooperative with the environment. Though sources differ regarding Philippines’s ranking4 in terms of gold deposits, our country’s being gold-rich is reflected in folk epics, as bulawan (gold) and is often attributed to matters considered good—which shall not be mistaken as materialistic in the capitalist sense.5

Beyond the indigene’s identities are their communities—their stories, cultures and economies. But because of the images that dominant faction of the “civilized” paint, the IPs and their way of life are misunderstood; or worse, reduced as objects fit for museums and coffeetable books. Instead of heeding the call of the tabusaw6, most of us fall for the myths of how fantastic “developments” are authored by owners and operators of giant machines that excavate mines and construct dams—and displace IP communities.
