scale souvenir: a parting gift

watched tarantino's django unchained, and this parting isn't like that of dr. king schultz's farewell to calvin candie that went "normally i would say 'auf wiedersehen,' but since what 'auf wiedersehen' actually means is ''till I see you again,' and since I never wish to see you again, to you, sir, I say goodbye." signing off w his fifth (but probably not the final) croc annote [JEWELER], dennis discussed how simoun failed and how paths might once again cross as another cayman lurks in Noli.

and like a proud mother i sign off with the postscript of the conceived child, as prophesied in JEWELER. i will show you a glimpse of a fraction of its limb so pardon this shameless plug that immediately follows yesterday's [shameless plug], and let me tell you that [pseudocuments volume two: files & facts & figures] is in the works, the semifinal stages of editing, and shall probably be available come june. among its contents is "from the common origin of chainsaws and crocodiles, and other life-and-death matters" with the first section "how to escape the buzzgator death roll: a gift." i leave you w a b.s. of a p.s., a sneek peak of that gift, and i hope you stay safe and away from whatever devil crocs you would rather not face because they are y/our sins.

gator as guilt incarnate

in the latest annote [A HIDDEN WORSHIP] at tekstong bopis, dennis mentioned the possibility of the crocodile being "the unconverted native, the wild and disobedient," something "re-purposed by the dominant power as an emblem of terror." this is something i'll try to explore, but first, a short komix:

the mother of crocodiles

re-read, re-view: [OPEN SEASON] recaps the first four chapters of El Fili, showing us the waters where crocs move about; [crocs across, beyond pages] follows, pulling us perhaps to and fro our arkham asylums; [GROUNDS FOR SPORT] opens the table for competition among stories, story tellers and the involved hocus-pcos (this entry was posted while the ritual, wherein people cast their blessings to democracy, takes place; reptilian fvckers olympics, w the usual 'every vote counts' as punchline; their game, their rules; we are but mere spectators so the democratic practice maintains whatever legitimacy it claims to have, w the assumed mandate blessed by the populace; indeed, "The larger the crocodile, the greater the glory of St. Nicholas."); [WORD MAGICKS] probes into the probable sources of power of fr. salvi: story and stone, hence the inquiry: "What are the implications of turning the devil itself into stone?" story and stone. let me hit my head w the latter.

obliterate something of value, and you make a name for, even a legend of, yourself, the hero. titles, like "dragonslayer," for instance. now, once you own something of value, that is another, well, story. more of an honorific than a title, "mother of dragons,"  imho, has a better ring to it than "dragonslayer." to obliterate or to own a crocodile is the question. fr. salvi opted for both, as expounded in WORD MAGICKS; but let me focus on owning:

crocs across, beyond pages

[note: i think this entry is more about the process of coming up w the image herein rather than engaging the narrative, so please bear w me if i refer to previous works and processes and stuff that i have been trying to sort in order to write this entry in as comprehensible a manner as possible. if you're fine w that, let the chaos of rizal's el fili x morrison's batman x crocodiles x upcoming elections x etc begin. if you're not interested, postpone reading this and begin w omaca-an wanderings.]

two days prior the elections; thus this second installment to this series. the first being [OPEN SEASON: The Crocodiles of El Fili] up at the tekstong bopis blog, where a backgrounder of this attempt to dive deeper into the rivers, actually and figuratively maybe, of rizal's El Filibusterismo is provided by dennis. he discussed how simoun the jeweler "traverses the strata" of the upper (chapter 1) and the lower (chapter 2) deck of steamship tabo. indeed, "excesses from above result in suffering below, acquiescence or struggle from below stabilizes or destabilizes the powers above."

omaca-an intermission

here's an intermission or maybe a spin-off of some sort after reading in damiana E's intro [sa MYTHS, i think?] something that stated how leeches came to be. i think she referenced adeva as the source of the data, but i haven't read the actual story, so, here is what came up:

here are the links to the previous drawings: [re-viewing] [othering] [teasing] and links to the annotes from tekstong bopis: [prelude] to annotations; [-1-] CANNIBAL GIANTS; [-2-] KAINGIN VS THE WILD;" [-3-] TWO APPROACHES; [-4-] THE FALL OF RAJAH SOLAIMAN; and [there's a fifth one coming,  i'll just update this post by then].  [-5-] THE HAUNTED RING [updated: 02082013].

re-viewing omaca-an

as mentioned in the [previous post], i thought of 'correcting' my illustration of the omaca-an. but, after talking w dennis of [tekstong bopis], i also think that maybe there is no 'wrong' illustration of the omaca-an. so, this isn't a correction, but rather another version, one without satyr legs. i might come up w another per/version, but i think we'd have to move on to another narrative [?]. soon [?].

but before doing so, let me link once again the [notes] about how i came up w the image of the omaca-an; and also, the [prelude] and two annotations up at tekstong bopis: [-1-] CANNIBAL GIANTS: First annotation of Eugenio's recounting of Adeva's recounting of Rajah Indarapatra's slaying of Omaca-an not only to avenge his brother but so that Lanao might live to tell the tale; [-2-] KAINGIN VS THE WILD: Second Annotation of "Rajah Indarapatra Slays Omaca-an, A Big Giant;"

omaca-an, bakunawa and other(ing) monstrosities

as mentioned in the previous post, this series of collaborative close- and over- reading of folk narratives intends to explore and to speculate and to investigate the text (and may, in the process, expand and extend the context of the concerned text and interconnect it w other texts, but i'll try my best not to do so). quoting dennis aguinaldo of [tekstong bopis] in his [prelude]: "This coming project, that's what it's all about. Over-reading unheard voices, over-drawing the shadows, a godawful merry clanging. Taking what we can get."
