about "its Motors in service"

The hybrid work "its Motors in service" uses as source text the transcription of two speeches delivered by an entity who projects himself as heir to the leadership of his parents, by employing empty words without action, as consequence of roughly imbibing the teachings of his parents. Machines humans dream of and visions machines imagine intervene the encoded articulation of the said entity. The words, upon the interruption of images, are then silenced, violated, sliced, devoured and regurgitated into a work against words spoken by an entity that does not work, and thus deserves to be phased out.

"splitting the atom" ++

from the college of fine arts, the CONDEMNED exhibit is now at hardin ng mga diwata of the college of arts and letters. if things go well, a print edition of our komix "Die Philosophen" (a slightly different version from the one that appeared in highchair 18: poetry comics issue) shall be available at BLTX VI (makiki-squat ata ako sa may bandang Cabinet). following* "Nang Mag-agaw-dilim ang mga Kabataang Mangangaso sa Majayjay" of Factsheet 6, is my contribution to Fact Sheet 7 / Down the Drain: The Wasted State of Human Rights under the Aquino Regime, "Splitting the Atom," which is about the illegal detention case of physicist, environmentalist, activist, professor Kim Gargar:

let us brace ourselves for Hagupit and bear with the crap that is the Aquino regime, so we have enough strength for vigilance and for mass action. taas kamaong solidarity sa panawagan para sa climate justice at para sa karapatang pantao!

found objects, "nonwork"

here are objects i found, never authored, their fault, their doing, never mine. also inviting people to the colloquium, postponed, originally scheduled last sept 20, but will push through tomorrow, same venue, same program. will talk about nihil vers and "nonworks," ie, erasures. see the abstract and other related links [here]. salamat!

graduate colloquium weekend, erasure presentation

as mentioned [earlier], i discuss [Nihil Vers: ode to deCo] this coming weekend, sept 20, at the cal graduate colloquium. book of abstracts with programme schedule, [downloadable]. after the *** is the abstract with the necessary hyperlinks (the abstract is included in the linked pdf file, pero, of course, no links sa stuff). also, an announcement: five three copies of nihil vers left, for those who reserved a copy, please drop me an email, an sms, a pm, or communicate in whatever manner, if you are still interested, so i keep a copy for you. i might print another batch, emphasis on *might*, but the next batch of copies might be cheaper and, what, uglier, than the first edition. kidding aside, i am uncertain whether i'll print another batch because the prints are limited: 40 copies, 20 different prints, only 2 copies per print. and i have to fund other projects and, again, produce limited copies, so i that they're out there, for whatever purpose they may serve. also, i *might* bring a print of the set of the recent Kritika Kultura collab, but i won't sell it, i'll just show it for the benefit of those who haven't seen it yet, since, as of the moment, the kk site is having some sorta problem. so, please drop by and try to [pre-register], kasi limited ata ang lunch or something. thank you. see you.

Omitted Texts, Overwritten Codes and E-rased Works: A Cutback
by Tilde Acuña

Three years may be too short a time since my first venture into erasure, but I think it merits introspection as much has changed in my manner of engagement. In 2011, “eraserase002” was published in Under the Storm: Anthology of Contemporary Philippine Poetry. Admittedly, I responded to the call for submissions with drafts that I consider in-progress, since editors Khavn dela Cruz and Joel Toledo say they look for “wasak” poems.
In 2012, a set with the aforementioned work came out in the erasures anthology but the words get in the way, assembled by Adam David. I thought I made a naïve mistake by erasing Brecht, but on hindsight, I re-think and re-consider that the project somewhat puts into practice his verfremdungseffekt. Only, it does not and I am making excuses for youthful forays I enjoyed.
Kritika Kultura No. 23 includes “Madrid 1884” and “Tondo 1892,” collaborative works with Dennis Aguinaldo. Preceding the aforesaid sets are entries in a picture dictionary, a larger work-in-progress with Aguinaldo: “bookworm two,” “flog two” and “workhorse two,” published in the online journal transit. The “eraserase” set and these recent works differ in execution, as the latter makes use of webpages as source text and of digitally rendered drawings as liquid paper (whiteout) or pentel pen (black out).
Finally, a project—building on insights from previous ones—attempts to enact violence on something I deem violent. In Nihil Vers: ode to deCo, I censor a document that aims to censor expression and suppress basic rights, in the fashion of industrial band Laibach's strategy that Zizek calls “over-identification,” which exaggerates dominant ideologies as a means of exposition.
Thus, my practice of obliterating texts evolved from an ekphrastic, quasi-artistic play; to a collaborative reflection on layers of meaning-making; and finally to a critical interrogation and outright mockery of ridiculously repressive policies, censored and pushed to its extremes through defacement via erasure.

calvino's chuang-tzu's crab

the illustration is an approximation, or perhaps a rip-off, of the most perfect crab, as created by calvino's story's Chuang-tzu with one stroke. after the cut, dennis, hani and i tried to break the crab, the artist who created the crab and the writer who created the artist who created the crab, etc etc (btw, i have a similar issue to address, but i'd rather have it addressed visually, since the issue that bothered me for a couple of weeks lies in the visual realm).

"Among Chuang-tzu's many skills, he was an expert draftsman. The king asked him to draw a crab. Chuang-tzu replied that he needed five years, a country house, and twelve servants. Five years later the drawing was still not begun. 'I need another five years,' said Chuang-tzu. The king granted them. At the end of these ten years, Chuang-tzu took up his brush and, in an instant, with a single stroke, he drew a crab, the most perfect crab ever seen." —Italo Calvino on "Quickness," from Six Memos for the Next Millennium

the iyas antho launch

and it has been three years since the workshop. i'd like to believe i've inevitably changed a lot, like the times constantly a-changin' as bob dylan sings to the ends of time and space. [blog entry] about the 10th iyas creative writing workshop is almost three years old. Had lunch with co-fellow S yesterday wednesday and hope to have dinner w L tomorrow later. time lag. watever that means. anyway. i still wish i could travel to that particular point in my time-space quasi-reality, else fly to bacolod when the light breaks the night sky; i'd have to cut the crap of nostalgia tripping here and append the invite:

12.12.12: 12.21.12 soon

today: i bought two books; and speculated, realized, how far the technology of cloning could have been because of paul landers and richard dawkins; and i voluntarily "revised" an artwork. i am finishing a calendar; and i am fabricating a bionote; and i have been tripping on rammstein and on laibach and on apocalyptica the whole week, month, realizing things in the process. i am sharing a lifted initial table of contents: "Illustrations by Tilde Acuna; Exordium, by Vince Torres; Apokalipto, mula sa Bintana ng Nishi-Gotanda Library, ni Kristoffer Berse; Heartless Mother at the End of the World, by Julian de la Cerna; Notes on an Ascent, by Dean Francis Alfar; There is No Emergency, by Chingbee Cruz; What’s as Inexorable as an Ice Cream Meteorite Approaching Earth? by Crystal Koo; The Hardest Profession in the World War + Papi Machete + Pinoi Autonomous Oblast Region + Persian Eruption, by Aser Peleg; The Sign of Hermes, by Chiles Samaniego; Labi ng lahat sa labing-apat na linya, ni Ayer Arguelles; Notes on the Plagues, by Eliza Victoria; The Rapture, by Mica Agregado; We Will Die in the Water, by Rupert Bustamante; Variations on Armageddon + Again + The Sky is Falling, by Alyza Taguilaso; A Fatal Error has Occurred, by Mark Anthony Cayanan; No eyes behind our heads, by May Dy; Too Much, God, Too Much, by Eva Gubat; Manila Gothic, by May Dy; Rehearsal of Transit at the MRT, by Eva Gubat; Planetarium, by Chiles Samaniego; Of House This End, by Mia Tijam; New Year, by Fidelis Tan; cne, by Trizha Ko; Wake + Art Class, by Loh Guan Liang; Small Endings, by Hillary Go; Nobody is Watching, by Kristine Ong Muslim; Spoil, by Michelle Esquivias; The First Ocean; Caterpillar, by Kristine Ong Muslim; The End of the Word, by Ria Rigoroso; Litanya ng Matandang Ulupong + Soliloquy of the Olde Serpent, by Tilde Acuna; happiness&madness, by Gerecho Iniel Cruz;" these are initial contents of an antho edited by adam david, an antho that i will mention at the end of this post. i will scan the "revised" artwork and submit it with the fabricated bionote tomorrow; and i will be published in the end-of-the-world antho THURSDAY NEVER LOOKING BACK. 12.15.UPDATE:YBB.LINK

mesostic meanderings speak nothing about something (or is it the other way around?)

got the idea from tekstong bopis, but unlike him, i am too, what, inconsiderate to explain my process. i am not even sure if i did it right, but i would like to suppose that i did, and that my interventions are permissible. made four. quantity over quality? i suggest the taglish ones be read as a pair. though they may stand, wait, i am already explaining, so, i stop and present the nothings i have to say using the mesostomatic:

shameless eraserase plug

amid all the hack and slash and all those v masks and blocked comments and blacked photos to bomb the fvck out of the brains of the champions of cybercrime law and the bullcrap of the palace's apologists comes a timely read that was sorta forecasted months ago. enough of the lengthy intro as life-threatening deadlines fire warning shots from all directions. [click here] to view and / or download "THE WORDS GET IN THE WAY #1, an anthology of erasures! Not featuring non-work from Angelo Suarez, Tilde Acuña, Nerisa Del Carmen Guevara, Petra Magno, A Despi, and Katrina Alvarez!" assembled by adam david. *update 10062012 0445: along w this zine, see other new titles from youth and beauty brigade [here] and on a not-so-related note, something from Datu's Tribe:

paper re: little killers++

familar with stewie griffin from the show family guy? or, maybe, years ago, hiei or vincent from yu yu hakusho or ghost fighter when there were, you know, flashbacks with, you know, yukina or mikaela? or any fictional toddler with the wit not of a kid but of a trickster of some sort? if not, try remembering, dammit. so i can make you interested enough and invite you to a conference.

as i've mentioned in the previous post, i shall post the abstract of my presentation for the conference "LITERATURE, MEDIA, AND THE ROMANCE OF CHILDHOOD: States of Innocence and the Business of Frightening Our Children" after receiving the finalized schedule. however, as of the moment, looong weekend's coming and there's still no word as regards the definite programme. but, my abstract was accepted, i believe. otherwise, i dont know. i'd look like da vinci's fetus drawing because of shame. though i am not certain of the exact time, as i've mentioned, most probably, i'll present my paper come thursday morning. after the image [source] is the cut; after the cut, the abstract; after the abstract, an image i liked and lifted from paper monster press's page [asuang launch facebook event page here][pmp warning here]. after the image is a text lifted from the organizers' facebook event page. that is all. i thank you. (oh, while we're at it, further down this post are details of the exhibit of The Cabinet at kanto gallery.)

dagdag filipiniana section + kalas plug

[naririto ang link sa rebyu]. that is all. i thank you.

send-offs, regret-wallowing, book-keeping

besides cynthia alexander's migration to the u.s because of 'lack of support,' another ribcage-devastating news was confirmed through dear comradely wastol, xl. the former, however, is more bearable than the latter--as, with a couple of friends, i went to one of the send off gigs, the one at 19 east, with, uhm abby clutario (see stick.com's feature here) of fuseboxx fame and humanfolk and other prominent musicians. the latter is, well, i don't know. hoping to publicly release a sigh about it soon. at the moment, what i am pertaining to is still in progress. *restrain further disclosure*

besides these ribcage-devastating news is another ribcage-devastating goodbye, but this one just needs a little adjustment and everything shall be fine: i have to leave my, uhm, sort of, little library behind and, of course, visit it from time to time. in my case, this is another time and space problem: too many books, too little (reading) time and, let me add, too little (shelf) space dilemma. sorting things out, organizing what goes where with the hows and the whys are headache-inducing these days. no further details after the cut. just photos. of books. and shelves.

[btw, salamat, lyza for for delivering these *tears*]

"To Catch a Second and Turn it to Forever" mula sa unang bahaging Leaving China ang napagdiskitahan ko. narito ang burador:
