gave you coupla reasons

(this is an addition to the close-reading list hosted herein. among the texts read / temporarily concluded / openly ended are the [omaca-an] series, the [crocodile] series, the [crab] and now, the [pink], which is one-shot like the crab. thanks D and H for granting the permission [?] to post our exchanges of reasoning. we tackled the words to an allegedly popular song via personal message, unlike the crab discussion which was posted as status message and the spontaneous discussion proceeded, free-for-all, at the comments section. we wanted pink for ourselves so-- after the cut, we discuss but before that, let me just say that the suggestion for discussing-- on second thought, i neither want to explain nor apologize for anything, so w/o further ado:)

T— hahahaha. game game. unang stanza pa lang, e.

so, hindi siya thief? kasi willing ang victim? tas may voyeurism na nagaganap, pero part ito ng plan ng kumakanta/persona. tas may reference kay midas, or perhaps, fullmetal. may alchemy, e.

H— haha yun pala yon

T— ^voluntary ang voyeurism. ay wait, hindi ko pa napanood. after lang ako ng literary wisdom, insight, shit, ng lyrics. choz.

D— kasama kaya sa mga 'parts' na kinuha at na'fix' ang mga lahok ng pyesa? o itong pyesa na mismo ang fixed/edited/revised nung maaring editor/reader ang inaawitan sa unang stanza?

T— kinda sick. this reeks of necrophilia. pero wait, given the possibility na editor/reader yung inaawitan, the reader is dead? yung pag-fix at pag-patsi-patsi, parang, may naglaro ba sa inyo ng warcraft? yung unit abomination, sa undead, yari iyon sa corpses. parang ...ganoon. hindi lang dead ang tingin ng umaawit sa reader(at/o editor?), kundi abomination. pero despite being an abomination, love pa rin ng poet ang reader. true love, bale. pero, may i add, may hesitation. give me a reason daw , e *yung unit na abomination, sa race na Undead*

D— the reader is dead? bago yun a. anyway, oo. mahalagang mapag-usapan ang pamagat. bakit sa kausap manggagaling ang dahilan? maaaring nagsi-cede ng authority ang author sa kasong ito

H— napa-praningan ako sa kanta na ito. ang OC at control freak lang nung pagka-adik sa fixing at parang yung "parts of me / that weren't all that pretty" ay itong piyesa na nga mismo at ang kaadikan nito sa fixing. the reader is dead or the reader ay isa lang sa mga "real bad dreams", fragment lang din sa utak ng tao sa first stanza?

D— praning talaga. kasi parang kung ano-ano ang sinasabi sa panaginip nung you (2nd stanza) at andami na kaagad conjecture ni pink (persona). e panaginip lang yun di ba? anyway, ang we're not broken just bent ay pinagdududahan kong meta comment either tungkol sa enjambment o sa logic ng pyesa mismo

H— iniisip ko kung ano pa pinagkaiba ng broken at bent e. pag broken, may force? violence? pag bent, pwedeng you do it on purpose, fixing in a certain way. so kung may kinalaman sa enjabment o sa logic, ang piyesa ay bent which means pwedeng ginanito sya on purpose pero nire-regret? parang yung undead ni tilde, nilikha on purpose pero tinuturing na abomination? hehe

D— may elemento kaya ng self-hate abominable/abominasyon ang titig sa relasyon... o palabas lahat ng blame dito? papunta dun sa you antindi palang author-to-reader comment nung: i'm sorry i don't understand where all of this is coming from. o reader-to-author na ba ito? kasi nagsasalita rin yung kapareha (yung you) rito at times

H— "palabas lahat ng blame" -- in denial and at the same time may awareness na nagde-deny siya si pink e. "I your willing victim" so may dahas/force na dinedeny, broken talaga at hindi bent. kaya ito ang dilemma ko ngayon: pag willing nga ba ang victim, walang crime?

D— baka menor de edad ang mode ng persona, rape of europa type. seduction of minor, so on, so forth

H— yung kapareha ang nagsasalita yata dun sa "i'm sorry i don't understand" pero may feeling ako na si pink pa rin ang nagke-kwento ng side ng fixer/reader e lalo na't dudulo rin sa same chorus yung stanza

D— or: yung paraan minsan na pinapangunahan mo na ang magiging sagot ng kausap/kakausapin mo. pero kung reader ang nagsabi, e di ayun na: ang walang kamatayang reklamo ng reader sa mga elitist/ obscurantist/ experimental/ avant garde na mga manunulat

H— ay oo, yung pinapangunahan kasi nga praning e. ay wait, dun pala sa second chorus, may pagpapalit ng pronoun from "it" to "you". sinong kumakanta nito? reader din?

T— re: difference ng break at bend, yung former, i think, kumbaga nanindigan pero wala sa lugar---basag. yung latter, sumabay, kumbaga. bumagay, nagkompromiso, kaya mas nagsusurvive. nakuha ko ito kay daenarys, samting layk, "what happens to things that dont bend?" tas may sumagot ata o implied na "they break." so, kung "just bent," baka keeping up w the times, or nagsusurender sa mas makapangyarihang force at the moment, kasi kundi, break. re: mga shift ng personalidad from persona to listener/reader, parang ito naman talaga ang katangian ng pop songs, kaiba sa tula? kasi diba ang tula, tinutula, kinokomunicate ng makata sa mambabasa. ang kanta, well, singalong, usually, kasi madali imemorize paulit2 na lyrix. catchy ang beat, unlike mga pa-avantgarde na tangina, ni beat hirap sabayan ng foot stomp o head bang kasi paiba-time signature, etc etc. good morning! sori nakatulog. signs of aging. mygahd.

D— good morning! malaking sakripisyo talaga kung nawala ang foot stomp o anumang metro. kaya well dapat may ipapalit na malupet ang avant types. na meron naman madalas. pero yun nga, kung may head naman na maibabang to the 'rhythm of me art' (na hindi naman taliwas sa konsepto ng tula) why not?

H— interesting yung point re: bend and break a. naging optimistic somehow yung kanta. tas kung idadagdag mo pa yung "it's in the stars / it's been written in the scars on our hearts" (i that line lol), parang sinasabi na we're resilient, we're calloused, we're too scarred/broken to break. yung pagdududa ni pink, eh pagpapakita nung bending. pero obviously, one-sided ito. re: metro - problemado ako rito sa pagbasa. control freak yung mga putol, napipigilan yung thoughts pag nababasa nang pakanta. kaya tuloy parang andali mong makumbinsi na magkasya na lang sa "that line... well put". yung pagka-control freak din siguro ang dahilan kaya catchy ang pop. pero kapag sapul nga naman yung music, expressive enough (hal. lasing pop ng the national <3). itong kantang ito, may malaking epek yung pre-chorus at chorus, yung mga repetitions na pinipili at kahit yung dynamics ng sound (hal. biglang lakas sa "and we can learn to love againnn" sounds like a desperate plea. kung hindi kinanta that way, simpleng proposal lang na "try again?" re: avantgarde - iba-ibang time signature, foot stomp. i think laro rin yan ng artist e, binabawi rin naman sa repetition, dynamics, sustains, pag-drag o pag-loop ng rhythm/fillers, plus pa yung kapal ng layers. may masayang appeal saken yung ganito kasi hindi mo man alam saan ang direksyon ng headbang mo, para ka namang may hologram sa utak ng lahat ng nagaganap dun sa piyesa, tas choose your own adventure ka na lang. poetic din kahit alang words. o isang layer lang yung words/lyrics

D— "Used to lie so close to me, oh, oh / There's nothing more than empty sheets / Between our love, our love" hindi kaya double-meaning ang "lie" dito (as lies are, by definition)? at ang susunod na linya naman siguro ay "blanket" indictment ng literary tradition (nothing more than empty sheets) siguro dahil rekta ang dating ng kaalaman in terms of perception (it's in the stars) at experience (it's been written in the scars of our hearts).

T— pahabol, so, inborn na ang perception? natural, bale? empty sheets, parang tabula rasa ata ano? na tayo ang nagpupuno nung kahungkagan ng mga salitang nasa kantang ito?
